LLANELWY Athletic moved up to seventh in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division standings with a dramatic 4-3 win at Cerrugydrudion.

The newly promoted side left it late before securing only their second triumph of the campaign, but they began the game in exceptional form and opened the scoring on five minutes when Luke Stanley rounded off a fine team move to break the deadlock.

Things got even better for the visitors soon after when Mathew Lewis made the most of some space on 14 minutes to double their advantage, but Cerrig came out after the break with a renewed sense of purpose and reduced the arrears through Gethin Jones with 58 on the clock.

This was met by a swift response from the away side, who restored their two-goal cushion shortly following the restart thanks to the prolific Ste Kirk, who demonstrated his trademark composure to fire in Athletic’s third of the afternoon on 62 minutes.

Credit to the hosts, they remained undeterred and got themselves back into the contest once again on 75 minutes when Dyfed Randry found the net, and the home side levelled matters thanks to a Nidian Jones effort with 80 gone.

There was still time for further drama during a hugely entertaining clash, with Athletic digging deep in the closing stages to claim three points when Lewis turned in his second with a minute remaining.

In the only other league fixture of the weekend, Llandudno Athletic’s frustrations continued with a goalless draw at home to Bro Cernyw.
