CONWY Borough have appointed Chris Morrell as first team manager with immediate effect.

The highly qualified coach replaces Russ Williams at the helm of the JD Cymru North high-fliers following a break from the game.

Williams has opted to leave his post due to increasing family commitments and leaves the Tangerines’ in a healthy position within the second tier after a sensational start to the campaign.

Morrell, who has worked at clubs such as Llandudno Junction and Llandudno in recent years, will be working closely alongside director of football Warren Gibbs to ensure the continuation of the club’s impressive recent development both on and off the pitch.

The new appointment, who is currently working towards his FAW A Licence, said: “It’s an honour to be asked to come into Conwy Borough FC and especially to work with Warren Gibbs and the rest of the staff. I am sure that this will help with my own development.

“Warren spoke to me in the summer but at that time it wasn't possible for me to get involved, however, when he called me recently I jumped at the opportunity and I'm willing to help in whatever way I can.

“Borough has the makings of a big club, they have made a fantastic start this season with a talented, hard working group of players so it’s just a case of seeing where that takes them with no pressure of expectation on them.

In the medium to long term, I'd hope we could put the foundations in place to attract local talent and young players to build for a successful future on and off the pitch.

“Thanks again to Warren and the club for giving me the opportunity and I'm looking forward to getting started.”
