PRESTATYN Sports exited the Lock Stock Cookson Cup at the first-round stage thanks to a 2-1 reverse at Bodedern Athletic.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side were unable to take their superb JD Welsh Cup form into another knockout competition, falling at the first hurdle against the in-form Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One runners-up.

The home side managed to get on the front foot early on and they broke the deadlock on 27 minutes when prolific striker Dean Redmond, a summer acquisition from Gwynedd League champions Menai Bridge Tigers, continued his exceptional start to the season with another well-taken effort after a prolonged period of pressure.

This was met by a largely positive response from the visitors, who restricted their opponents to some half chances and looked good in possession when allowed space.

After the break saw the hosts doubled their advantage late on thanks to a quick breakaway that resulted in Ryan Thomas remaining composure to fire in the chance.

There was still time for further drama from a hugely entertaining clash, and Sports reduced the arrears with virtually action of the game when veteran forward Ian Dunn’s impressive strike found the corner.

This left the away side with little time to level matters to ensure they had nothing to show for their efforts from a result perspective, but performances have been much-improved of late and they will look to continue this on Saturday during their trip to Mynydd Llandegai.
