ABERGELE closed the gap at the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division summit with a resounding 5-0 home success over Bro Cernyw.

The title rivals took advantage of Rhuddlan Town’s inactivity to reduce the deficit between the sides to just two points, with Gele also extending their unbeaten start to six contests.

The home side got off to the best possible start when Sam Aston gave them an early advantage on the quarter-hour mark, and they doubled their tally immediately after the restart when Kieron Holland found some space and finished well with 17 on the clock.

After the break saw Gele seal another three points thanks to a Jack Lloyd effort on 63 minutes, and prolific forward Jack Hoult also got in on the act with a well-taken chance on 72 to add a fourth.

There was still time for more goalmouth action from the home side, which came on 86 minutes through Liam Roberts to put the exclamation point on proceedings.

Veteran striker Leon Gierke was at his brilliant best to guide promotion chasing Llansannan to a hard-fought 3-2 win at Y Glannau.

Despite the eventual result it was the hosts who drew first blood when Jordan Davies hit the target on three minutes, but a quick-fire brace from Gierke on 42 and 45 gave Tom Lewis’ side a slender cushion heading into the break.

The experienced forward rounded off another exceptional individual display with his hat-trick on 61 minutes, and despite Davies netting again for the home side with 76 gone it was not enough to prevent the Orange and Blacks from moving to within three points of the leaders in third spot.

A two-goal salvo from Luke Elden was the highlight of Meliden’s morale-boosting 3-1 home triumph over Rhos United, and Lee Stoke also fired a brace for Llandudno Athletic in their impressive 6-3 victory at newly promoted Llanelwy Athletic.
