PENMAENMAWR Phoenix turned in their best performance of the season to date during their 3-0 home victory over in-form Gaerwen.

Martyn Jones’ side were at their clinical best against a side that had won five of their first opening games to sit top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two standings, with Daniel Hughes once again standing out thanks to a brilliant display in front of goal.

The talented player was rewarded for his overall effort with a brace that played a huge deciding factor, and Alfie Caldecott also got himself on the scoresheet to round off a very encouraging performance from the home side.

Mochdre Sports were also celebrating a home success as they secured a 3-1 win over Kinmel Bay.

A tremendous start from the hosts saw them go ahead after just nine minutes when Tom Roberts burst clear and produced a composed finish to break the deadlock.

Things got even better for the home side soon after when another lapse in concentration presented a chance to Bradley Wynne, who punished the Bay on 12 minutes and doubled Sports’ tally.

Credit to the away side, they regrouped following the setback and began to dictate the tempo for long periods of the first half without reducing the arrears thanks to some wayward finishing from promising positions.

They were punished for their lack of efficiency in front of goal after the break when Roberts capped off a fine individual performance with his second of the afternoon on 51 minutes to all-but seal victory for the hosts.

The visitors did manage to net a consolation late on through Matthew Marsh-Evans, but it came too late and failed to have an impact on the overall outcome of the contest.
