PRESTATYN Town extended their good start to the JD Cymru North season with a 6-1 win at newly promoted Corwen.

A hat-trick of penalties from Rob Hughes played a leading role in the Seasiders’ triumph, with the club welcome Gresford Athletic to the Motion Finance Stadium on Tuesday before travelling to fierce rivals Rhyl on Saturday (2.30pm).

The away side got their noses in front on 25 minutes when Jordan Davies found the net after being put through by Jack Kenny, but this provoked a strong response from the hosts that results in a leveller courtesy of a Joe Williams effort with 27 on the clock.

A crucial period of the game saw Hughes convert two spot kicks in as many minutes to close out the first half and give Town a two-goal cushion at the break, and the former Connah’s Quay Nomads midfielder secured his treble after the interval with yet another penalty on 56 minutes.

Another neat passage of play on 69 minutes presented the easiest of chances to Kenny, who steered into the net from close range to seal the Seasiders’ fifth goal of the contest, and they wrapped up proceedings in fine style when Danny Davies despatched a ferocious 30-yard strike that found its way into the bottom corner.

Town managed to control possession in the closing stages without adding to their tally, with another big week awaiting the title favourites as they look to lay down a championship marker early.
