PRESTATYN Town recovered from a poor start to secure a 4-2 home success over Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant.

The Seasiders’ found themselves behind in the first period before rallying to progress to the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup, where they take on Cefn Druids this Friday.

Town skipper Alex Jones went close after just three minutes with a header following a corner, and the visitors were handed the chance to break the deadlock on eight minutes when they were awarded a penalty, which Mattie Jones duly converted.

The home side were frustrated throughout the majority of the first period against a resolute Llan rearguard, but they did manage to get back on level terms in first half stoppage time when experienced striker Ian Griffiths finished from close range.

After the break saw the hosts take the lead for the first time in the contest on 47 minutes when Rob Hughes’ long-range effort hit the target, and they doubled their tally when Michael Parker diverted a Griffiths flick-on with 69 gone.

The home side sealed their passage to the next round on 72 minutes when a Dan Davies cross evaded everyone and ended up in the corner, and despite Jones’ netting his second of the contest in stoppage time in was not enough to prevent Town from returning to competitive action with a win.
