PRESTATYN Sports got their pre-season campaign off to a flyer with a 4-2 home victory over Brymbo Reserves.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side have undergone significant changes to their management team during the summer, with Sion Williams replacing club legend Mark Hughes at the helm to work alongside John Hargreaves.

The hosts wasted no time in making an impact on proceedings, taking the lead early on courtesy of a neat finish from Ashley New, who marked an impressive debut for the club with a well-taken effort to open the scoring.

Things got even better for the hosts soon after when Steve Ashe headed home a superb corner delivery, and they trebled their tally shortly after the interval when the prolific Dean Hyland produced a powerful drive into the net following some outstanding approach play from Mark Price.

Substitute and newly appointed joint-manager of Sports’ reserve side Ian Dunn made another telling contribution from the bench in the final quarter of the contest, and he was rewarded for his superb impact when he finished off another sweeping attack to round off the scoring from the home side’s perspective.

A number of changes from Sports’ halted their supremacy alongside some eye-catching saves from the visiting Brymbo stopper, and some defensive frailties late on saw the away side score twice in the closing stages of the contest.

Despite this, it was a very encouraging return to action for Williams and Hargreaves’ side, who are looking to build on a hugely impressive first season operating at third tier level last term.
