RHYL FC have been handed a tricky away fixture in the first round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

The Lilywhites will officially open their campaign at FAW Tier 2 North League rivals Buckley Town on the weekend of August 2-4, with the club looking to make a money-spinning run in what has become one of the most profitable for teams operating outside the top-flight.

The Bucks emerged as one of the surprise packages in the Huws Gray Alliance last term, eventually finishing the season in eighth position in the standings thanks to a series of exceptional displays.

Should Eddie Maurice-Jones’ side advance in the competition, they have been drawn against one of the JD Welsh Premier League’s powerhouses in Connah’s Quay Nomads on home soil at the Educate Group Stadium.

Andy Morrison’s men once again finished second behind all-conquering The New Saints last term, but it was their performance in the Iron-Bru Cup that gathered national headlines and saw them reach the final of the competition.

The round two ties are scheduled to take place from August 9-11 during what is a frantic start to the Welsh domestic season.

Prestatyn Town will take on Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant at the Motion Finance Stadium in the first round, with the winning side rewarded with a trip to Cefn Druids.
