ABERGELE were unable to finally kickstart their North Wales Cricket League Division One season as they were beaten by 121-runs by Carmel and District.

The struggling side restricted their opponents to 195-9 from their allotted 50 overs in the middle on home soil, with wicketkeeper Ryan Roberts leading the way to finish his knock unbeaten on 47.

Other scores of note came from Barry McGauty (26), Daniel Owens (38) and Oliver Saynor (30), and Jack Whitehouse was another to reach double-figures with a contribution of 17.

David Moulson was the pick of the Gele bowling attacking, claiming three wickets for the loss of 35 runs from a nine-over spell, with skipper Karl Higgins claiming a pair of scalps at the expense of 41.

Despite Moulson and opening partner Ben Garnett getting the hosts off to a positive opening before both were removed by Oliver Saynor on 24 and 27, a mixture of poor batting and deteriorating light ensured they never got close to reaching their target as play was halted after 27 overs with Gele on 74-4.

Bad light stopped play following a consultation between the umpires officiating the contest, and Higgins’ side remain second from bottom in the standings ahead of their home clash against Mold at Pentre Mawr Park.
