IT was a day to forget for Prestatyn’s batting order as they were defeated by 170 runs at Wigan.

The Liverpool and District Competition First Division side comprehensively beaten on their travels for their second reverse in succession, with the club making the trip to Northop Hall on Saturday.

Welsh youth international Sheil Sethi got the away side off to a good start with the early wicket of Jake Leyland for 16, with Rhys Jones clean bowling John Richardson after the opener made a stubborn 32 off 85 deliveries.

A strong partnership from Aaron Redmond and Jake Burrows put the home side in the ascendancy before the former retired hurt on 44, with Burrows eventually trapped lbw by Waqar Khan on 55.

The returning Gareth Boughey despatched skipper Charles Taylor and Harry Jackman for 29 and one respectively on his way to figures of 2-31, with Khan helping himself to one victim in the form of Anthony Whittaker (26) as the hosts declared on 225-6 from 51 overs in the middle.

Richardson wasted no time in making use of the new ball with the quick-fire wickets of Boughey (6), Keiron Tidswell (3) and Sethi (0), and the gifted bowler also despatched Khan (7), Jones (0) and Joe Horton (1) throughout the innings to conclude a spell-binding ten-over spell with figures of 6-19.

Wicket-keeper batsman Robbie Rimmington did not fare much better and was caught off a Jordan Hampson delivery on five, with skipper David Harris making a promising 18 not out.

Unfortunately for the Beach Close side, their captain ran out of partners at the other end as they made just 55 all out in reply.

The club also conceded their Welsh Cup contest against Denbigh on Sunday, with their second team suffering a 65-run loss at Norley Hall.
