A DISAPPOINTING display with the bat condemned Abergele to a heavy nine-wicket reverse at Conwy.
The early season North Wales Cricket League Division One derby clash went the way of the home side in convincing fashion, with Gele’s batting order decimated as they mustered just 49 all out thanks to a sterling performance by the Conwy bowlers.
Opener David Williams was the only batsman to emerge from their time in the middle with any sort of credit, making 22 before he was superbly caught and bowled by Shaun Davies, who ended the day with outstanding figures of 4-12.
No other visiting batter made more then eight, with Vaughan Williams and Gareth Thomas claiming a pair of scalps apiece for the combined loss of 18 runs.
The home side’s time in the middle did not begin as well, with Evan Williams caught off a Karl Higgins delivery after contributing just two.
Davies was in much better form and wasted no time in getting his side over the line, smashing a number of boundaries to end the day unbeaten on 36.
This ensured the hosts reached their required total after ten overs at the crease, leaving Gele still searching for their first league win of the season.
Ed Rooney’s men will be hoping for better fortunes on home soil when they entertain Gwersyllt Park on Saturday.
