LLANDUDNO Athletic moved to within three points of second place in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division with a thrilling 6-4 win at Machno United.

The in-form side can clinch runners-up spot behind champions Llandudno Amateurs with victory in the final fixture against Old Colwyn, which would see them overtake Llansannan on goal difference and jeopardise their promotion to the Welsh Alliance.

There is no guarantee that their final game will even take place, with Old Colwyn once again failing to field a team in their weekend contest against Abergele to throw further doubt on the overall outcome of the current campaign.

Athletic hot-shot Danny Talbot was at the top of his game throughout the encounter, and he capped off a clinical individual display by netting no fewer than four times during the success.

There was further cause for optimism regarding Rob Lane’s side thanks to the performance of Jack Williams, who managed to secure a brace to secure another notable triumph on their travels.

United gave a very good account of themselves in the face of some stern competition and they were rewarded with goals from Seb Owen (2), Luke Roberts and Dion Lloyd.

The results saw Machno end their season third from bottom in the standings, winning five of their 18 games.
