RHEWL 1

CLAWDDNEWYDD 1

WHAT a start to the Summer League season there was at Rhewl!

Just 60 seconds had elapsed when Sion Roberts' hosts bagged their first goal of 2019.

Clawddnewydd deserved to haul themselves level a quarter-of-an-hour later and Mark Lewis' side can perhaps count themselves unfortunate not to have claimed all three points on offer.

In a dream opening for Rhewl, Jason Williams found the net from all of 40 yards, although Clawdd number one Deian Lloyd Williams will feel disappointed not to have kept it out.

Clawddnewydd's response was first rate, though, and they posed a threat to the home backline.

They had a strong penalty shout turned down for handball, before Carwyn Williams tucked away a close range effort to deservedly level things up after 17 minutes.

In a feisty second half, both sides were denied by the woodwork.

An superb effort by Tirion Griffiths from 20 yards clattered against the crossbar four minutes into the second period, while Phyl Roberts' strike for Rhewl hit the woodwork after an hour.
