HOLYHEAD Hotspur talisman Mel McGinness has received a notable accolade as a result of his efforts throughout the season.

The influential forward scooped the Huws Gray Alliance Player of the Year after a series of outstanding displays that saw him secure the most Man of the Match Award throughout the season.

Manager Darren Garmey stated that McGinness had not been at his best for parts of the campaign as the Holy Islanders’ were relegated from the second tier, but he lauded his talent and outlined the club’s pride to have him as part of the set-up.

He said: “It’s a great achievement for Melv, but I saw the surprise on his face when he got called up for the award and that was because he knows himself that he hasn’t been at his best at times this year and that to me is frightening.

“He is such a talented footballer and one we are proud to call our own.”

McGinness netted eight league goals throughout the season, with arguably his finest performance coming in their impressive victory over derby rivals Bangor City.

He is set to play a huge role for the Anglesey side next term as they look to make their stay in tier three a brief one.
