RHYL and District blew a huge advantage during their thrilling 19-17 loss at Nant Conwy Seconds.

The Dragons turned in a sensational first half display to put them in a commanding position, but they faltered after the break to ensure they had nothing to show for their efforts despite an encouraging opening.

A good start from the visitors sat them go ahead when skipper Richie Williams broke through the Nant rearguard for a touch down, and he dusted himself down to despatch the conversion attempt.

Things got even better for the visitors soon after when flanker Tom Williams was the beneficiary of a surging drive from the Dragons’ pack to go over for the second score of the contest. Williams added the extras.

They took a 17-point cushion into the break thanks to a Williams penalty, but the home side came out after the break with a renewed sense of purpose and got themselves back into the game with three tries, the last of which arrived just five minutes from time.

Williams had the chance to win the game for the away side in the final moments when they were awarded a penalty in a promising position, but the talented centre fired the effort narrowly wide to end the contest.

Seb Vidal’s side travel to newly crowned WRU National League Division Two North champions COBRA on Saturday, before concluding their campaign at home to Dolgellau on May 4.
