ABERGELE’s North Wales Cricket League Division One season began with a six-wicket reverse at Mold.

The away side set a target of 123 all out from their 46 overs at the crease, with Lewis Tolond emerging as the team’s top scorer with an unbeaten innings of 22.

Ben Garnett was the only top order batsman to make it into double-figures with a knock of 20, with Owen Lynam’s 18 late on also boosting the score-line during a disappointing start to life in the middle for Gele overall.

There were plenty of encouraging bowling performances for the home side, with Richard Deniz taking three wickets at the expense of 29 runs from a seven-over spell, with Jamie Ryle, Ricard Crane and Lewis Pringle all taking a pair of scalps apiece.

Lynam got the visitors off to a good start when he clean bowled Crane on five early on, but an unbeaten 55 from Duane Williams was enough to get the hosts over the line with minimal fuss for the loss of four wickets after 26 overs.

Ably assisting at the other end was Isaac Allen, who was also there at the end after making 33 not out, with Gele’s other wickets coming from David Moulson and Chetan Upadhyaya.

Abergele welcome Bersham for their first home fixture of the season at Pentre Mawr Park on Saturday, and their second unit also suffered opening day disappointment with a loss at St Asaph.
