A DRAMATIC night in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title race saw both Llangefni Town and Bodedern Athletic suffer rare defeats.

The title rivals had nothing to show for their efforts to leave things as they were at the summit, with Cefni enjoying a slender one-point cushion over Rickay Williams’ men, who have one crucial game in hand.

Athletic’s 12-match winning run came to end thanks to a 4-2 loss at Nantlle Vale, with Ashley Owen and Rhys Williams putting the home side two-up with just 13 minutes on the clock.

This was met by a swift response from the visitors, who got themselves back into the tie on 21 minutes when Ryan Taylor found the net, but they were undone once again as Williams despatched his second of the evening from the penalty spot with 32 gone.

After the break saw the visitors impose themselves once again on proceedings and reduced the arrears thanks to a Casey Boylan effort on 64 minutes, but they were unable to take any of the chances that came their way in the closing stages and were caught short at the back on 88 as Dylan Williams slotted home to seal victory for the hosts.

Cefni were unable to seize the initiative in the title race as they fell to a 2-0 home loss at the hands of Mynydd Llandegai.

Things did not begin well for the home side as they fell behind on 14 minutes when Craig Whelan unleashed a ferocious 20-yard effort that went in off the post, and the same player was on hand after the break to double Mynydd’s advantage with 68 on the clock.

Bodedern face a pivotal few days in their quest for the crown as they travel to Llanberis tonight (Thursday) and Llandudno Albion on Saturday, with Chris Roberts’ side making the trip to Barmouth and Dyffryn United this weekend.
