MELIDEN’s disappointing end to the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two season continued with a 2-1 home reverse at Llannerchymedd.

The Miners, who recently resigned from the fourth tier ahead of a move back to the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League to secure the club’s long-term future, were unable to end a run of consecutive defeat that has seen them drop from mid-table to 12th position in the standings.

The home side failed to get a foothold in the game early on thanks to some strong pressure from Llan, who went ahead on ten minutes when Gavin Sharpe extended his excellent recent run of form with a well-taken finish.

Both sides spurned good opportunities throughout the remainder of the first period, but it was the visitors who extended their advantage after the break when Rob Jones pounced on some hesitant defending to fire in a second on 77 minutes.

A nervy ending to the game was assured when Dylan Ford notched what turned out to be the hosts only goal of the encounter on 88 minutes, but it proved to be too little, too late as they could not find an equaliser in the dying moments in their final home fixture.

The Miners conclude their campaign with two away fixtures at title favourites Glan Conwy and Y Felinheli later this month.
