Y GLANNAU secured second spot in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One standings with a game to play following a 3-2 home win over Llysfaen.

Another fine display on home soil secured a hugely impressive three points against a spiriting visiting side, and they moved two points ahead of Henllan and four clear of Rhos United to guarantee runners-up spot.

The hosts got off to a flyer and went ahead after just six minutes when Rhys Tomos Clark broke clear and finished well, but this was met by a strong response from the visitors, who levelled matters on 32 minutes through a fine strike from Gareth Dentith.

This spurred on the away side further towards the end of the first half, and their improved tempo brought further reward when Dentith despatched his second of the afternoon with a minute remaining in the half.

After the break saw the hosts regroup and get themselves back on level terms on 55 minutes when Clark capitalised on some space to put away his brace, and the crucial moment of the contest arrived with 74 on the clock as Adam Hall’s superb strike found the corner to put the home side in front for a second time.

This proved to be a huge deciding factor in the overall outcome, and Glannau saw out the remainder of the encounter with minimal fuss to seal their 12th success in 19 league games this term.
