MOCHDRE Sports boosted their slim Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two survival hopes with a 5-1 win at Meliden.

The long-time strugglers turned in one of their best attacking displays of the season to move to within eight points of Saturday’s opponents, but it could be a case of too little, too late due to Sports having just three games remaining.

The home side had no answer to Chris Lloyd throughout the contest, with the in-form player turning in an exceptional display throughout.

This resulted in the forward producing a clinical hat-trick that played a significant part in the visitors’ crucial success, with Bobby Tudor and Josh Grimshaw also on target for Sports during the rout.

Chris Marsden did manage to notch a consolation for the hosts after a rare spell of possession, but it failed to have an overall impact on the outcome.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix consolidated their position in ninth spot with a narrow 1-0 home triumph over title chasing Llannefydd.

The hosts broke the deadlock courtesy of a neat finish from Alfie Caldecott, and they remained resolute in the face of some consistent pressure in the closing stages to seal three points.

That proved to be a massive boost from the perspective of championship hopefuls Glan Conwy, who received more welcome news on their weekend off as Pwllheli were downed 4-2 at Kinmel Bay.

Pwll’ can still move above Howard Vaughan’s side if they win all of their seven games in hand, which looks to be tall order given how many contests they have to play in such a short space of time.
