CONWY Borough are holding a charity auction relating to their historic rainbow shirts recently worn to promote a nationwide tolerance campaign.

The Tangerines’ wore the specially commissioned shirts for their Huws Gray Alliance game with Prestatyn Town in support of the Football vs Homophobia initiative, and the colourful kit drew a large media interest in addition to raising exposure of the subject.

They will now be auctioning off the match-worn shirts to raise money for the cause.

Darren Griffiths, club director at Conwy Borough, said: “We are taking email bids for the shirts which are numbered from one to 17 (excluding 13) so when placing an offer bidders can specify a preferred shirt number but will also have the opportunity to be allocated an alternate shirt number depending on the value of their bid.

“We wanted to give as wide an audience as possible and profits from the auction will be shared with the Football v Homophobia initiative to support their campaign of inclusion for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through the medium of football.”

Warren Gibbs’ side are back in second tier action this Saturday when they welcome fellow newly promoted side Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant to Y Morfa (2.30pm), and a Boro’ win would all-but confirm their league status next term.

Anyone wishing to place a bid for the Football vs Homophobia shirt can do by emailing conwyborough@outlook.com.
