ABERGELE threw a spanner in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division title race with a superb 2-1 win at Llansannan.

In the third contest between the two sides in as many weeks, Gele came up trumps again as Gari Evans’ men continue to lose momentum at just the wrong, and they remain two points clear of Llandudno Amateurs having played three games more.

A tense first half saw both teams miss opportunities, but the home side drew first blood after the break when experienced striker Leon Gierke finished well to extend his outstanding campaign to date.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who got back on level terms on 71 minutes when Jack Lloyd Williams found the net, and they secured three points with five remaining when Greg Hilditch converted from the penalty spot.

Llandudno Athletic still harbour feint hopes of the championship thanks to a comfortable 4-1 success at Cerrugydrudion.

A brace from the prolific Jamie Moorhouse did the majority of the damage, with Matt McElroy and Ryan Jones also hitting the target to move them with 12 of Sannan with four games in hand.

Matty Rees was the star of the show for Rhuddlan Town, who moved up to fourth with an outstanding 7-3 triumph at Llanfairfechan Town.

The marksman was in ruthless form and rounded off his day with a hat-trick as a result of his clinical finishing, with Jordan Bellham and Jay Whitehouse smashing in a brace each to complete the rout and see Wayne Hughes’ side continue their exceptional run since the turn of the year.

Rhidian Williams notched four in Machno United’s game against Old Colwyn, with the game abandoned after 82 minutes with the score 4-0 to the home side.
