PRESTATYN Town were left counting the cost of a host of missed opportunities in their 0-0 draw at Penrhyncoch.

The Seasiders endured a frustrating afternoon in front of goal to ensure they only had a point to show for their efforts, leaving Neil Gibson’s side in ninth spot as they prepare to welcome Gresford Athletic to the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

The visitors had to withstand some heavy pressure from the Roosters in the opening exchanges, but they gradually grew into the contest and carved out their first real opening on eight minutes when a Dave Hayes free-kick flew narrowly wide.

Dan Roberts beat the keeper with a powerful head after 12 minutes only to see his attempt hacked off the line, with Chris Bennett flashing a strike wide of the post in the aftermath of the chance.

Town continued to show real nous going forward and Oli Buckley forced the keeper into a smart stop on 21 minutes after he latched on to a stunning delivery from Ben Maher, but chances were few and far between for the remainder of the first period thanks to the discipline of both defences.

The second period began well for the Seasiders, with Ian Griffiths and Buckley both testing the home custodian early on, with Jack Higgins’ effort from just inside the area falling gratefully into the goalkeeper’s hands on 51 minutes.

Midfielders Warren Adam and James Hay had to be at their best to deny a great chance for the hosts midway through the half, with Buckley spurning another good opening with 79 on the clock when he fired straight at the keeper.

That proved to be the final chance of note for either side as both sides seemed happy to settle for a point from the stalemate.
