KINMEL Bay were unable to throw a spanner in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title race as they fell to a heavy 5-1 home reverse to league-leading Glan Conwy.

The fourth-tier side were no match for Howard Vaughan’s promotion favourites, and the result leaves Bay in fifth position as they prepare for their trip to Pwllheli on March 9.

The home side fell behind on the half hour mark when Conor Davies produced a bullet header that flew into the net, and things went from bad-to-worse soon after when Owain Morgan doubled their advantage with a sensational individual effort, beating two players before rifling a shot into the top corner.

Prolific forward Merrick Knight continued his fine run of form since re-joining the club with a tremendous strike to all-but seal the points for Glan, but Andy Thomas’ men kept probing and got their reward when Jordan Worthington unleashed a free-kick into the net for what turned out to be only a consolation.

That was as good as it got for the home side, who fell further behind late on when talisman Jordan Phillips notched a long-range free-kick of his own following an infringement, and the same player was on hand to secure his brace and round off what was a rare bad day at the office for a side who are performing above expectations in their first season operating at this level.
