LLANDUDNO Amateurs closed the gap further on Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League leaders Llansannan with a hard-fought 2-0 home success over Bro Cernyw.

The title chasing side, who are looking for their second consecutive after securing the Division One crown last term, were made to fight for another three points that puts them just two points behind Gari Evans’ long-time pacesetters with two games in hand.

The hosts got off to an imposing start and they were rewarded on 17 minutes when a sustained period of pressure on the Bro goal eventually saw Azzy Rogers turn in an opportunity.

They spurned a wealth of chances to extend their cushion throughout the first period, and the visiting rearguard also turned in a performance of genuine quality to keep clear-cut chances to a minimum.

After the break saw the Amateurs’ finally double their advantage on 55 minutes when Aidan Bell continued his exceptional recent run of form in front of goal with another well-taken finish.

This proved to be crucial and visually deflated the away side, allowing the promotion hopefuls the chance to see out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion for their 12th win in 14 league games.

The in-form outfit will look to make another statement in their next outing on March 9 when they entertain basement dwellers Old Colwyn.
