PRESTATYN Sports got back to winning ways with an impressive 2-1 win at Llandyrnog United.

Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ side have endured an indifferent run of results in recent weeks, but they ground out a positive result against a spirited effort from Ryan Harden’s side to move them up to sixth position in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One table.

The ambitious club will look to continue their outstanding first season operating in the third tier this Saturday when they entertain Llanberis at their Gronant base on Saturday (2.30pm).

The visitors almost went ahead early on when Dean Hyland fired wide after being put through on goal, with Tom McDougall also spurning a good opportunity after some neat exchanges in the build-up.

They were made to pay for their inefficiency in front of goal when the hosts took a lead into the break courtesy of a neat effort from Sion Davies.

After the interval saw Sports’ come out with a renewed sense of purpose, and they got back on level terms thanks to a powerful finish from Hyland, who atoned for his first half miss in clinical fashion.

Young stopper Brooklyn Peakman produced a series of fine saves to keep the scores level after a barrage on the visiting goal from United, and this proved to be crucial as they got their noses in front for the first time in the game when McDougall headed in a corner at the far post.

This was followed by some significant pressure from the home side in the closing stages as they went in search of a point, but a sensational last-ditch tackle from Reece Chamberlain to deny a certain goal thwarted their efforts to give Sports the bragging rights.
