LLANDUDNO Amateurs closed the gap on Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League leaders Llansannan with a thumping 10-3 home win over Machno United.

A clinical display from Azzy Rogers proved to be the catalyst behind their success, with the prolific forward firing in a double hat-trick to move them within five points of the long-time pacesetters with three games in hand.

The hosts pulled away early thanks to a quick-fire brace from Rogers on two and ten minutes, but United halved the deficit with 13 gone when Sam Thomas converted an opportunity.

This was met by a devastating response from the Amateurs, who netted twice in quick succession midway through the half when Aiden Bell despatched a brace of his own, but the visitors showed signs of life towards the end of the first period when Owen Davies and Seb Owen cut the advantage following a rare period of pressure.

It proved to be one-way traffic after the break, with Rogers at the top of his game with another four goals throughout the second period to take his tally for the afternoon to six.

Bell also tucked away another effort to seal his hat-trick, with Scott Court also on target for the home side as they reached double figures.

Cerrigydrudion picked up just their second triumph of the campaign with a 3-2 home victory over basement dwellers Old Colwyn.

Goals from Dafydd Bailey and Tegid Williams gave the hosts’ a comfortable cushion at the interval, but they were pegged back early in the second half thanks to strikes from Joel Massam and Steve Collin.

With the game heading for a stalemate, Tirion Griffiths produced a moment of magic with three minutes remaining to secure a vital win for the home side.
