BODEDERN Athletic manager Ricky Williams was bursting with pride after his side secured a dramatic 1-0 win at Llangefni Town.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side booked their place in the FAW Trophy semi-final with a last gasp goal that separated the title rivals, with Athletic now looking forward to the next stage of the national competition and a chance at an historic final berth.

Williams, said: “It was some day for Bodedern Athletic Football Club.

“It was fantastic to advance to the FAW Trophy last four. We were written off before a ball was kicked in the summer and I could not be prouder of my lads.

“To a man they have been excellent all season and they thoroughly deserve their place in the semi-final. What we are achieving isn’t bad for a village club.”

Despite the home side enjoying the majority of possession in the opening stages, they were finding it difficult to penetrate the resolute Athletic rearguard which saw chances at a premium throughout the first period.

After the break saw the visitors create the tie’s first notable chance when a Hayden Clarke cross fell into the path of Steven Whittaker, but the prolific forward’s header sailed inches over the bar.

Chris Roberts’ men spurned their best chance of the contest soon after when a neat passage of play presented a chance to Marvin Pritchard, who rattled the inside of the post from a tight angle.

With the game heading for an additional 30 minutes, the away side produced the telling moment a minute from time when an inch perfect cross from Whittaker was met by a stunning volley from Ryan Taylor to open the scoring and seal a memorable victory for Williams’ side.
