KINMEL Bay’s Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title hopes were dealt a near-fatal blow as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Aberffraw.

The newly promoted side have enjoyed a standout campaign to date, but they were unable to recover from a poor start that saw them fall 12 points behind new leaders Glan Conwy with a game in hand.

Andy Thomas’ men will look to get their season back on track when they welcome inconsistent Gwynedd League champions Holyhead Town (2pm).

The visitors set out their stall from the outset and they opened the scoring on 25 minutes when a neat passage of play presented a chance to Richard Owen Roberts, who demonstrated fantastic composure to slot home.

After the break saw the away side extend their lead on 65 minutes when the prolific Nathan Moore took advantage of some hesitant defending to fir into the net, but a nervy ending to proceedings was assured when Bay reduced the arrears late on.

This was not enough to see them emerge with a share of the spoils in what was only their fifth defeat in 20 fourth-tier games this term.
