LLANGEFNI Town booked their place in the Lock Stock Cookson Cup final with a dramatic 4-2 extra-time win over Llanrug United.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One rivals were involved in another closely fought encounter and saw Cefni reach the showcase, and Chris Roberts’ side continue their pursuit of multiple honours this Saturday when they welcome title rivals Bodedern Athletic in the FAW Trophy quarter-final this Saturday.

Roberts, said: “A great win overall for us and a cup final to look forward to now.

“I don’t think we were at our best on and never really got going. We pressed them well and most of the play was in the opposition’s half to be honest.

“We brought it back twice from going behind and just before extra time I told the players I expected more from them and for us to forget the 90 minutes we had just played and go at it as if it was a new game.

“We did well and scored another two goals to secure a place in the final. But we will have to put that to one side for now as we still have plenty of football to play before then starting this Saturday as we host Bodedern in the FAW Trophy.

“Having already beaten them at their place this season we will be looking for more of the same this Saturday in front of our own fans.”

A cagey opening to proceedings brought little in the way of goalmouth action in the first period, with Alan Mark Owen’s header ruled out for offside on 42 minutes.

The tie came to life after the break and the visitors went ahead on 69 minutes when Gavin Lloyd Jones broke clear and finished well, but Town responded quickly and levelled when Gari Owen finished well with 72 gone.

United got their noses in front yet again soon after when Dylan Owen converted from the spot, but an Owen header sent the game into extra-time late on.

The home side secured a passage to the final with goals from Marvin Pritchard and Cai Powell-Roberts on 95 and 98 minutes respectively.
