BODEDERN Athletic eased into the Mawddach Challenge Cup third round with a convincing 3-0 win at Mochdre Sports.

Things did not begin well for the home side and they fell behind on five minutes when Ricky Jones hit the target, and they fell further behind on the 20-minute mark when Kieron Downey doubled the visitors’ advantage.

Their task became nearly impossible when an own goal secured a fourth for Athletic on the half hour mark, but Sports acquitted themselves extremely well following their latest setback and although they did not manage to get back into the tie, they gave their in-form opponents plenty to think about in the second period.

Mynydd Llandegai also booked their pace in the hat as a Liam Willighan brace guided them to an emphatic 5-0 rout at Holyhead Town, with Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs coming agonisingly close to a major upset before eventually falling to a 5-4 penalty shootout loss at Llangefni Town.

Goals from Dylan Owen and Ben Rowlands were enough to see Llanrug United advance with a 2-1 triumph over a spirited Kinmel Bay side, but a brace apiece from Marquis Holland and Rhys Roberts failed to ensure Pentraeth’s progression as they were downed 3-1 on penalties by Llannefydd after a pulsating contest finish 5-5 after 120 minutes.
