RHYL continued their outstanding recent run of results with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Penrhyncoch.

The Lilywhites have now won 12 of their last 13 games in all competitions with another resolute display on their travels, and the Huws Gray Alliance side will look to take their stunning form into their clash with high-flying Porthmadog at the Educate Resource Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

The visitors got off to a positive start and almost went ahead early on when a James Murphy effort flash wide, and defender Ben Nash tested Roosters’ stopper Leigh Jenkins with a header soon after.

They did not have to wait much longer for a breakthrough thanks to the only goal of the game on 12 minutes when striker Barry Torrence headed in a Murphy corner for his second goal in consecutive matches.

Former Lilywhite Carl Lamb was looking dangerous for the home side on his debut, and he was unfortunate not to level matters midway through the first half when a header was ruled out following a foul on goalkeeper Rory Crowther and another ex-Rhyl star also failed to convert a chance when Luke Sherbon fluffed his lines during a good spell.

After the break saw Crowther produce a fine save to deny Jonathan Evans and keep the Lilies’ in the ascendancy, with Torrence almost adding to his tally on two occasions during a frantic start to the second period.

The lively Lamb wasted another good chance after some neat build-up play on the hour mark, but the introduction of talented youngster Cai Owen brought a renewed sense of urgency into the away side’s tempo and he almost made an instant impact when he fired a shot at Jenkins after a superb individual run.

Jenkins had to be at his best to deny Mike Pritchard on 79 minutes, and the Lilies’ managed to avert danger from a goalmouth scramble in the dying moments to clinch their success.
