PRESTATYN Town manager Neil Gibson praised his side’s defensive prowess after they secured a narrow 1-0 home win over Holywell Town.

The Seasiders’ were made to work hard by their Huws Gray Alliance rivals to extend their unbeaten run to five games in what has been a fantastic recent turnaround at the club, and they now find themselves in eighth position in the standings ahead of their trip to Buckley Town on Saturday (2.30pm).

Gibson, said: “We had to work hard for it and we knew this week was going to be completely different because after we won at Airbus (Broughton) and with the good run we are on there was a certain expectation on us at home.

“Holywell gave us plenty of problems with their direct play and there is nothing wrong with that. They played for set-pieces and they have plenty of big players, so the lads had to withstand some pressure which pleased me more than anything.

“We got ahead with an early goal but with the wind the way it was it was difficult to build momentum for the rest of the game. We created chances when we got the ball down and had to deal with a high volume of balls into the box, which I thought we did magnificently.

“I’m really pleased for Oli (Buckley) and I had a feeling he would score today, but for the rest of the game we were really resolute and had to withstands a heavy challenge.

“Make no mistake we set high standards here and it is not just about the back four defending, it is about defending as a team with everyone working hard and taking responsibility when they have the ball, and unless you have that then you aren’t going to win games.”

The home side got off to the perfect start when Oli Buckley rounded off an impressive team move to put them ahead after just three minutes, with Danny Davies, Alec Williams and Dave Hayes all going close throughout the first period.

Johnny Haseldin’s side put Town under considerable pressure after the break in the search of a leveller, but Gibson’s men held firm to secure their fourth win in their last five.
