ST ASAPH City produced one of their finest performances of the season to come away with a 3-2 victory at in-form Greenfield.
The Saints eased their relegation fears with a stunning display against the promotion chasers, with Daniel Brewerton’s men now sitting third-from-bottom and three points clear of the bottom two ahead of their next Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One outing at home to Llandyrnog United on Saturday.
Shaun Beck had a goal disallowed for the home side in the first period, and City took the lead after the break when Paul Fleming unleashed a ferocious 25-effort into the top corner on 50 minutes.
This joy proved to be short-lived as the hosts restored parity to the scoreline almost instantly when a neat interchange in play saw Aidan Roxburgh level matters with a composed finish on 55 minutes, and things looked bleak for the Saints when they were reduced to ten men midway through the half.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, the visitors produced a stunning finish to the game with two goals in a minute late on from Fleming and Steve Fawcett, which gave them a cushion to protect with just two minutes remaining.
A nervy ending to proceedings was assured when the home side were awarded a stoppage time penalty that was converted by Beck, but Brewerton’s side held firm in the face of some strong pressure in the closing stages for a notable success on their travels.
