RHUDDLAN Town threw a spanner in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division title race with a stunning 2-1 home victory over Llandudno Amateurs.
Wayne Hughes’ men picked their finest win of the season by some margin against their promotion chasing opponents, and the result moves them to within five points of the top three in what is their first season back playing at this level.
The hosts got off to a very strong start and they opened the scoring on ten minutes when Corey Taylor finished well after a neat passage of play.
This joy proved to be short-lived as the Amateurs struck back almost instantly when Scott Court fired them level after 12 minutes, and the away side were guilty of missing a wealth of good opportunities throughout the remainder of the first period in the face of some stern resistance from the Town rearguard.
After the break saw the home side come out of the blocks flying and they managed to regain their slender advantage on 47 minutes when Ian Davenport was presented with a chance, and he held his nerve to find the net and give them a crucial lead for a second time.
They had to ride their luck in the second half but thwarted every visiting attack during a phenomenal defensive display to seal their fifth triumph in 13 league games so far this term.
