BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs remain in pole position for the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two crown thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win at Holyhead Town.

The long-time leaders are now 12 points ahead of rivals Glan Conwy having played two games more, and they went ahead on the half hour mark when Kieron Ellis continued his exceptional recent run of form with another well-taken finish.

After the interval saw the Harbourmen get back on level terms on 70 minutes when Gary Jo Owen notched another goal for the club, but the visitors took away another crucial three points thanks to an Andy Roberts finish with 15 remaining.

Gaerwen picked up a huge victory in their fight for survival as two late strikes from Geraint Jones and Iwan Jones secured a 2-0 success at Amlwch Town, and Aberffraw also turned in a sensational performance thanks to a 2-0 home triumph over high-flying Llannefydd thanks to a pair of efforts in three minutes from Nathan Moore and Stephen Jenkins.

A superb effort from Y Felinheli saw them advance to the Take Stock Van Hire Challenge Cup third round with a 2-1 win at in-form Llannerchymedd.

The away side got off to a flyer when Griff John opened the scoring in the first period on 37 minutes, and the same player was on hand to double their advantage with his second of the afternoon with 49 gone.

Mark Jones slotted away a penalty for the hosts on 82 minutes to ensure a nervy end to proceedings, but they were unable to find a leveller and bowed out of the competition.

Also through to the next stage of the competition are Pentraeth, who had a solitary Jack Diamond striker to thank for their 1-0 home victory over Meliden.
