PRESTATYN Sports’ outstanding recent run of results came to an end as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Llanrug United.

The newly promoted Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side turned in an unusually lacklustre display against their title chasing opponents, and the loss drops them down to fifth position in the standings ahead of their tricky looking trip to Penrhyndeudraeth on Saturday (2pm).

Things did not begin well for Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ men, who fell behind with just 14 minutes gone when Dylan Owen unleashed a ferocious effort from long range past Ryan Jones to open the scoring.

The away side came into the game as the half progressed but were finding it difficult to penetrate the United rearguard despite enjoying some good possession, and they were made to pay just before the break when Aaron Hughes doubled the hosts’ advantage on 41 minutes.

After the interval saw David Noel-Williams’ side all-but seal their victory on 57 minutes when another sustained spell of possession saw Hughes despatch another chance for his second of the afternoon, and although they tried valiantly Sports were unable to find a route back into the game to condemn them to just seventh defeat in 17 league contests during what has been a standout start to life in the third tier.
