RHYL picked up their ninth win in succession with a 2-0 success at Denbigh Town.

Director of football Eddie Maurice-Jones emerged from a tie at his old club with all three points following a keenly contested affair, with the Lilies’ continuing their sensational recent run of results following an indifferent start to the campaign.

They will be looking to maintain the positive momentum during their next outing when they host coastal rivals Prestatyn Town in a hotly anticipated Boxing Day derby.

The home side started the game well and went close on two minutes when Pat Hinchcliffe fired wide, with James Murphy looking lively at the other end to spurn an opportunity with nine gone.

A scrappy first period saw both sides wasteful in possession, but the Lilywhites came closest when Aaron Hassall’s free-kick sailed narrowly wide shortly after the half hour mark.

Jordan Barrow was causing the visitors’ formidable back three some problems and he shot wide towards the end of the first period, with Jonathan Hill-Dunt pulling off a smart stop to deny Scott McHarrie just after the interval.

The away side got the crucial breakthrough after 64 minutes when in-form defender Ben Nash steered home a corner past Craig Vernon to open the scoring.

Things got even better for the visitors soon after when they were awarded a penalty on 76 minutes following a foul by former Lilywhite Tony Davies, and Denbigh native Kristian Pierce held his nerve to convert and double their advantage.

Credit to Matthew Jones and Dewi Llion’s side, they kept plugging away and almost found a route back into the contest on 86 minutes when a Hinchcliffe delivery was met by the head of Jake Walker, but the former St Asaph City hitman was left frustrated after another fine save from Hill-Dunt.

That proved to be the final chance of note as the Lilies held on in the closing stages comfortably to extend their perfect run that stretches back to October 12.
