IN-FORM Prestatyn Sports moved into the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One’s top four with a narrow 1-0 home win over Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

It has been a memorable first campaign in the third tier for Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ side, who emerged with three points in treacherous conditions to elevate them above Llandudno Albion on goal difference.

The newly promoted side will look to continue their outstanding recent form over the busy festive fixture list, which sees them travel to St Asaph City on Saturday for a pivotal derby clash.

Both sides spurned opportunities in the first period as the home side battled well with the wind against them, with Ryan Jones pulling off a sensational stop to keep the scores level despite having to adjust in mid-air to prevent the strike from finding the net.

After the break saw the hosts gradually start to pile on the pressure with conditions now in their favour, but were unable to convert their dominance into goals despite dominating possession for the majority of the opening exchanges.

The crucial moment arrived after 70 minutes when a moment of magic down the flank from Aidan Bell resulted in the forward delivering a superb cross on to the head of Steve Ashe who made no mistake with the finish.

The visitors fought valiantly in the closing stages in their pursuit of an equaliser, but the Sports rearguard held firm to see the game out and seal their third victory in succession to put them further up the league in their first few months operating at this level of the Welsh football pyramid.
