PRESTATYN Town must start turning their good performances into points to avoid a relegation dogfight during the second half of the season.

The Seasiders have shown a marked improvement in their overall effort as the campaign has progressed following a complete turnaround of playing and coaching staff during the summer, but the Huws Gray Alliance is an unforgiving place this term and they have found things tough going for the most part.

Returning boss Neil Gibson has galvanised the squad in terms of their morale and their efforts on the field have reflected this, at least in the way they have performed and expressed themselves against the high-quality opposition currently plying their trade in the second tier.

Besides their heavy loss at a resurgent Bangor City last weekend, their recent matches have all been closely fought affairs but it is imperative that they pick up their third win of the league season at home to Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant at the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday to give them some positive momentum heading into a brutal looking series of festive fixtures in the coming weeks.

Following their encounter with the newly promoted side, Town entertain Guilsfield before travelling to derby rivals Rhyl, and they also come up against high-flying Porthmadog and unbeaten runaway leaders Airbus Broughton during a difficult stretch.

With the Seasiders’ sitting second from bottom and four points adrift of safety, another poor run of results would make their predicament far more concerning as they aim for survival and consolidation of their position within the second tier.

There is plenty of talent within the squad to ensure that this does not become an issue, with the recent arrival of Ben Maher from Caernarfon Town a massive boost in terms of their fortunes in the final third of the field.

The forward found chances in his preferred position limited for the JD Welsh Premier League outfit this season, but he has undeniably quality and his link-up play with prolific striker Ian Griffiths and Oli Buckley is sure to stand them in extremely good stead for the remainder of the campaign.

This is a club with big ambitions after the arrival of new ownership, and the significance of them remaining in the division beyond this season cannot be underestimated for their long-time aspirations going forward.

That will be easier said than done, as Marc Griffiths’ side have been arguably the surprise package of the season so far after being widely written off following promotion, and they currently find themselves in seventh position in the standings thanks to a series of impressively eye-catching results.

It is a game where the level of performance is largely irrelevant. The result is all that matters, and it is one that the Seasiders need to be on the right side of.
