RHYL director of football Eddie Maurice-Jones praised his side’s second half display as they secured a 4-1 home win over Guilsfield.

The Lilywhites picked up their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions to continue their recent resurgence, but they face a stern test of their credentials this Friday when they welcome fierce rivals Bangor City to the Belle Vue Stadium (7.45pm).

Maurice-Jones, said: “We just couldn’t settle early on and struggled from the start which was disappointing as we have performed well for the last three or four weeks, but credit to Guilsfield who moved the ball quickly and we lacked the desire and determination to get on the ball and play in the right areas.

“The goal just before half-time didn’t change pour team talk and we got a massive response from the lads in the second and the substitutes all came on and made a massive difference.

“We were a different team and although we were still sloppy at times it was a big improvement. Once we scored it gave us a safety net and the lads were a bit more confident, and we will cause any team problems when we find our rhythm and it looked like we were going to score at every opportunity for a 20-minute spell but we need to be doing that from the off.

“Rhyl and Bangor are the two biggest clubs in the area and deserve to be playing at a higher level and I believe both are destined to in the near future, and this is one of the main reasons I came to the club.

“It will be two good sides going head-to-head and both have been picking up some good results, so it is definitely one to look forward to.”

Lilies’ stopper Jonathan Hill-Dunt had to pull of a number of fine saves early on as the away side settled better into the tie, and Gareth Partridge gave the home side the lead just before the break with a well-taken effort from outside the box.

The second period saw the hosts produce a much-improved display and they went two-up on 58 minutes through an Andrew Ford own goal, and Joe Sullivan was on hand to treble their tally with 64 gone.

Defender Ben Nash prodded home from close range to seal the points on 74 minutes, with the visitors netting a consolation late on through James Parry.
