RHYL first team manager Gareth Wilson declared their 2-1 JD Welsh Cup win over Conwy Borough as “a pleasing day at the office”.

The Lilywhites continued to show improvement to book their place in the hat for the second round of the prestigious competition, and the former Prestatyn Town boss was full of praise for his talented squad after they emerged from a tricky tie at last season’s treble winners with flying colours.

Wilson, said: “It was a very good result at a very tough place to come.

“Conwy are a very organised team and Gareth (Thomas) has got them playing some good football, but I thought we were excellent in the first half and even better in the second from a defensive standpoint.

“We played on the counter and had three or four chances to kill the game, but the most pleasing thing to take from the game was our defensive work against a side who threw everything at us.

“Our philosophy has always been to play the ball on the floor and we played some lovely football at times, but we also looked a threat when we went a bit more direct and it is good to have that balance.

“As I have said before it is early days with this group of players but over the last three or four games there have been some excellent signs that can give everyone great encouragement going forward. The lads are buying into everything we are asking of them and I thought when were under pressure we were solid and Rory (Crowther) didn’t have to make too many saves which was pleasing.

“To be drawn away from home against such a good side makes you the underdogs and for us to have gotten through is massive for the club and it was a very pleasing day at the office.”
