STRIKER Mike Lundstram is set to play alongside his son after signing for Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

The 35-year-old Dwygyfylchi resident has joined the club from Division One outfit Llanrwst United, where he played a significant role in their unexpected title challenge last term to enhance his prolific career throughout the region for more than a decade.

He is now set to play up front with his son Benn, a 16-year-old wonderkid who has been making a real name for himself as one of the brightest young finishers anywhere in the country.

Lundstram, who has won four Welsh Alliance titles and three Cookson Cups throughout his career, said: “I wanted Benn to join Penmaenmawr our local club just to get some experience of playing men’s football as he's only 16 and just come out of junior football, but he's taken to it like water off a ducks back.

“I plan to carry on playing for two more seasons and thought what an opportunity to go and play with my son while I'm still fit.

“After all I've achieved everything I wanted to in local football and fair play to Llanrwst they understand my decision and left on good terms.

“I feel Benn will go on to play a higher level and I'd just like to help him along the way with my experience and no better way to do that by being on the same pitch as him.”

Benn is a product of the hugely successful Bangor City Academy and is still involved with their U19 set-up, helping the Citizens’ U16 side to the Easter Open tournament triumph in Holland earlier in his fledgling career.

The Sixth Form pupil at Ysgol Aberconwy also had a trial to enter the Welsh schoolboy system last weekend, has netted 14 times in all competitions already this season and won JD Welsh Cup Player of the Round despite his tender age.

Father and son could start together for the first time this Saturday when Phoenix make the trip to Pentraeth.
