LLANGEFNI Town boss Chris Roberts said he his side turned in a “poor” performance despite advancing to the FAW Trophy third round with a 3-0 win over Gaerwen.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders made seven changes to the side that beat Greenfield, with Matthew Jones going close to opening the scoring on the half hour mark when he effort from just outside the box rattled the cross bar.

They finally broke the deadlock on the strike of half-time when a Dan Thomas header found its way into the net, and after the break saw former Gaerwen striker Liam Morris come back to haunt his old club after 55 minutes to double their advantage.

The home side were now in complete control of proceedings and settled the tie with 80 gone when prolific forward Alan Mark Owen prodded home from close range after some outstanding approach play from Marvin Pritchard.

Roberts, said: “We always knew that Gaerwen would up their game coming to Lon Talwrn and that was the case today.

“We found it hard to get going in the opening 45 minutes and were wasteful in possession. A few harsh words were said to the players at half time and I felt that we came out in the second half much better, moving the ball well and with a quick tempo to our play.

“We made seven changes to the team that started in the league last weekend and it was good to give a few players coming back from injury etc some minutes.

“All-in-all a poor performance but another win to keep our unbeaten run going and we progress into the next round.”
