TOM Jones was the star of the show as Rhyl and District progressed in the WRU Bowl thanks to a resounding 36-7 win at Shotton.

The Dragons showed their fighting qualities against the well-drilled Wrexham area side, and they managed to get their noses in front just before the break when Che Hudson went over after good work from Reeve Wright, and things got even better soon after when talented full-back Jones touched down for his first of the afternoon.

After the break saw the visitors resume their dominance from the outset, which resulted in a barrage of tries from Richie Williams and a tremendous solo effort from Wright after a prolonged spell of possession.

Jones rounded off a sensational individual display with two more scores late on to seal his hat-trick, with Williams despatching three of the conversion attempts to continue the away side’s impressive start to the new campaign.

The Dragons make the long journey to Llanidloes next Saturday as they return to league action, with head coach Seb Vidal looking for a strong turnout in training in the hope of making it three wins in succession.

Rhyl and District’s youth team played an experienced Newtown and went down 55-5. Cai Evans scored their only try of the game.
