A RHYL football coach has been rewarded for his considerable application to the sport with a high-profile qualification.

Niall McGuinness, who is the current manager at Huws Gray Alliance high-fliers Flint Town United, has achieved his UEFA A Senior Licence award following a successful assessment process.

The 27-year-old, who has also managed Rhyl FC during his career, is widely regarded as one of the most talented coaches anywhere in the country and guided the Silkmen to the Huws Gray Cup last term after taking over in November.

He worked closely with hugely respected figure and Football Association of Wales representative Alan Bickerstaff throughout the qualification, and McGuinness also overcame personal adversity after losing his mother during the course.

A post on McGuinness’ Facebook page, said: “This has been my goal from the minute I started coaching at the age of 19 and eight years on I can finally say I’ve achieved it.

“It’s been a tough journey losing the closest person to me along the way. My mentality changed to become more determined to achieve it.

“Massive thank you to all the staff at the FAW who supported me through it especially my mentor Alan Bickerstaff. All the players who have took part in my sessions.

“My family for their support and most of all my old man (Laurie McGuinness) for always believing in me and giving me the confidence to achieve it. Looking forward to continuing my footballing Journey.”
