PRESTATYN Town joint-managers Leon Field and Ryan Turner could not hide their delight as they secured a dramatic 3-2 Nathaniel MG Cup win at Denbigh Town.

The Seasiders progressed to the next round in thrilling fashion, with captain Alex Jones popping up with a thunderbolt in stoppage time to seal their second successive triumph in all competitions.

Field, said: “I thought we should have killed the game off way before the goal, but the lads dug in for 96 minutes and we were delighted to get the win.

“A lot of them were injured out there in the second half but we fought really well and I thought it was really comfortable for us throughout the game. We should have taken the chances that came our way which would have put us out of sight.

“I said we are going to have a really good go in this competition and the lads are more than willing to take anyone on.”

After Jack Hoult and Jones missed good opportunities early on, the hosts drew first blood after 12 minutes when in-form striker Rhys Llwyd diverted a cross past Ryan Woods to open the scoring.

The second period brought a flurry of goals that began with defender Dave Hayes rifling in a deflected free-kick to level proceedings on 55 minutes, and things got even better for the away side when Jack Hoult notched his first of the season following an impressive individual run after 63.

Loanee Alfons Fosu-Mensah looked to send them game into extra-time when he drilled a low effort into the corner, but Jones had the final say after 96 minutes with a stunning volley to send his side through.

Turner, added: “We came out of the blocks and should have been four up in ten minutes. We sat back a little after that but turned it on second half and deserved the win.

“The team spirit in the dressing room is unbelievable and everyone kept going until the end so we cannot ask for more than that.”
