A SERIOUS injury to Ashley Williams marred Prestatyn Town’s 2-0 home friendly defeat at the hands of Airbus Broughton.

The Wingmakers’ star needed lengthy treatment for a suspected double leg break early on in the contest following a challenge that resulted in a red card for Seasiders’ midfielder James Hay after six minutes.

Despite having a numerical disadvantage Town turned in an encouraging display against one of the more fancied sides in the Huws Gray Alliance this term, and things do not get any easier this Saturday when they travel to Porthmadog (2.30pm).

Joint-manager Leon Field, said: “It was a 50/50 challenge and was absolutely sickening to see and we wish Ashley well in his recovery.

“Obviously the game plan went out of the window after the early red card but I was proud of the lads for the way they performed with ten man and they dug in superbly well.

“They are all fighting for the badge and there is a fantastic spirit within the dressing room, and to compete with a top side like Airbus for as long as we did just shows that things are going in the right direction.

“It was a real eye opener for the lads in terms of what they need to do to be a success at this level, and we are expecting another tough test against a good Porthmadog side next weekend.

“They have brought in a lot of quality such as Jay Gibbs, who was someone we had a look at, so it is going to be another tough ask but my players are looking forward to the challenge.”

The visitors opened the scoring after 24 minutes when Kristian Platt’s free-kick found its way into the net, but they were left frustrated on numerous occasions thanks to some impressive defending from returning centre-half Dave Hayes and some outstanding goalkeeping from Ryan Woods.

The title hopefuls doubled their tally on 78 minutes when James Cooper latched on to a stray pass before slotting home from close range to complete the scoring.
