ANOTHER dazzling display from Peter Cassidy ensured Prestatyn gained a creditable draw at Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One leaders Southport and Birkdale.

The all-rounder has been one of the signings of the season and turned on the style yet again with both bat and ball to give his side a share of the spoils, and the result leaves Gareth Boughey’s men in fifth spot and 45 points off the promotion places ahead of their home clash with Wigan on Saturday.

Cassidy got to work with the new ball immediately by taking out the opening pair of Bradley Yates and Isaac Lea for 13 and five, and he swiftly followed this up with the prized scalp of Adam Phillips after the home batsman made a promising 27.

The seamer took his final figures to 4-41 from 18 overs with the wicket of Adam Trimboli for a duck, with Adam Tidswell also getting on the act with 2-22 by removing Chris Cunningham (14) and skipper Chris Firth (9).

Harry May provided the hosts’ resistance with a fine knock of 62 before he was eventually dismissed by Ryan Westwell (3-21), who also helped himself to the wickets of Angus Gailey (0) and Gary Keedy (8) as the home set were all out for 160.

Things got off to a disastrous start for the visitors in the middle when openers Westwell and Darren Hughes failed to make a run between them, with Sheil Sethi (7), David Harris (4), Daniel Williams (13), Robbie Rimmington (6) and Joe Horton (8) all failing to provide a notable contribution to the scoreboard during a difficult spell in the middle.

Cassidy proved a far sterner proposition to oust from the crease, ending the day unbeaten 62 off a mammoth 148 balls as the Beach Close side saw out their innings in comfortable fashion to finish on 125-7 to ensure they had something to show for their efforts after a gritty display.
